Bistrita is located in a wide depression, surrounded by hills with gentle peaks and heights that dominate the landscape, crossed by the Bistrita valley from which it took its name, the settlement ended and developed due to the fact that in the region from the northeast corner of Transylvania, entered at the beginning of the Middle Ages between the royal possessions, fundus regius, were installed Flemish, Walloon, Saxon, Bavarian, which will be known later under the generic name of Saxons, endowed with a series of rights and freedoms that gave them a privileged social and economic status, a process that took place after the middle of the twelfth century. The first mention of the town dates from the year 1241 when the codes of the Echternach monastery mention between the settlements destroyed by the Mongols and "oppidum Nosa" the name given by the colonists of the settlement based on the river Bistrița. Subsequently, the name taken from the locals, Bistrița, was generalized.
