Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, creation of the deconstructivist architect Frank Gehry, central element of the urban renewal and modernization of the city
In recent decades, Bilbao has gone through an urban renewal process based around a new subway system and the opening of the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao. A new tram system, EuskoTran, was introduced in 2002. Due to the city's renewal and modernization efforts, Bilbao is currently one of the most modern cities in Southern Europe. The process is still ongoing, and under construction is a unique tower, designed by Cesar Pelli, which will be used as headquarters for the Basque regional government
